WSQ: Let’s work on easy-to-understand reports! Effective data visualisation and communication
Have you ever tried to explain your data to stakeholders who do not appreciate your insights? Are you impressed with dashboards that can help users to answer their questions and facilitate data discovery? The answer to these lies in how you visualise your data. Data visualisation is not simply creating charts. It encompasses a series of planning and data-related activities to help you present your insights effectively.
In this hands-on course, you will learn all the basic skills and techniques to design and create effective and aesthetically pleasing data visualisations using Tableau to help you become more productive at work, be it for reporting or analyses purposes. We will also cover the art of creating interactive dashboards and touch briefly on infographics and to learn practical knowledge to improve your communication and presentation skills.

This course covers 4 Learning Units (LU):
LU1: Plan and Design
Analyse business problem and audience to establish objectives for data storytelling and visualisation
Select appropriate visualisation techniques and information displays to convey data and findings
Select and organise appropriate elements to create informative and dynamic data displays
Assess the style and needs of the audience and adjust the language and presentation formats
LU2: Develop and Troubleshoot
Describe the differences among different data types and table structures
Undertake simple data preparation steps to cleanse data for analytics and visualisation
Organise and analyse data to present trends and correlations
Develop interactive graphics, visuals and other technical features into the data visualisation
Discuss limitations with data and highlight potential issues with interpretations of findings

LU3: Present and Communicate
Adopt the usage of visual cues to convey key meaning and insights effectively
Create concise and insightful commentary to accompany visualisation and describe the context
Describe data trends and patterns in the narrative format to cater to different groups of audience and scenario
LU4: Feedback and Improve
Demonstrate an understanding of automation and workflow to streamline data preparation steps to design a real-time dashboard
Appreciate the importance of obtaining timely feedback from audience to update the objectives of data visualisation and refine the presentation elements
Discuss key change management concepts and develop plans to obtain buy-in from stakeholders
This course uses a mixture of presentations, group discussions and hands-on exercises. A significant portion of class time will be dedicated to hands-on session to ensure participants can create the visualisation back at work.
Assessment
Assessment in the form of Written Assessment and Case Studies (open book) on both days. (For those applying for SSG training grant, it is compulsory to complete and pass all assessments.
Important Note:
As this class places strong emphasis on the hands-on experience, you will be working with data for the majority of the time in the class. To optimize the learning experience, it is mandatory for all participants to bring a laptop and install the software needed for the class beforehand.
Participants will be using the software in this course: Tableau Public (Windows and Mac). Detailed instructions on the installation will be sent to your registered email after your attendance has been confirmed.

Note:
As this is a WSQ-accredited programme, ISCA is required to upload participant’s assessment results to SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) for the generation of electronic Statement of Attainment (SOA). ISCA will collect personal information from all participants to generate the relevant SOA.

SkillsFuture Enterprise Credit (SFEC)
The SkillsFuture Enterprise Credit (SFEC) encourages employers to invest in enterprise transformation and capabilities of their employees. Eligible employers will receive a one-off S$10,000 credit to cover up to 90% of out-of-pocket expenses on qualifying costs for supportable initiatives, over and above the support levels of existing schemes.

2] SkillsFuture Credit (SFC)

All Singaporeans aged 25 and above will receive an opening credit of S$500 from the government. You may wish to use your SFC to pay for partial/full ISCA course fees.
On 1 Oct 2020, the Government provided a one-off SkillsFuture Credit Top-up of $500 for all eligible Singaporeans aged 25 or above by 31 Dec 2020. Singaporeans aged 40 to 60 by 31 Dec 2020 will also receive an Additional SkillsFuture Credit (Mid-Career Support) of $500 which can be used for courses under: (i) SGUnited Skills Programme, (ii) SGUnited Mid-Career Pathways Programme – Company Training, and (iii) Career Transition Programmes. If you wish to enrol for the course with SFC Funding, please proceed with the following steps:
Step 1: You will need to ensure that you have sufficient SkillsFuture Credits in your SkillsFuture Credit account in order to make a successful claim. Please check your SFC account balance here.

Step 3: Upon adding to cart, the system will prompt a question “Do you wish to apply for SkillsFuture Credit?”, click “Yes” and input all required information.
Step 4: At the Cart page, please ensure that SFC funding is applied before clicking “Checkout”.
Step 5: Upon receiving an email that the programme status is confirmed, please proceed to submit SFC claim on SkillsFuture Portal within 60 days before the course start date and obtain the necessary approval. Please submit SFC claim via SFC portal (http://www.skillsfuture.sg/credit).
